| Eco-Trek: Yerekem Halla To Gopinatham |

Trek-in-brief: A one day trek that requires a lot of stamina to complete. You start from Ponnachi 2nd cross. The path is a gradual slope and is not daunting to the seeker. Expect to see some of the best flora that you can find anywhere in the world. Elephants in a herd, if you are lucky, will be a treat to watch simply because of the size of the herd. After about eight to ten hours of trekking you reach the destination - Gopinatham. Here you can see the forest guest house that is almost a century old.
Difficulty level: Difficult
Must watch or know about:
- You are advised to make own arrangements for lunch as this is not part of the trekking programme
- Uttappinahalla - a favourite place for elephants. Considered to be homeland for elephants around this region
- Gopinatham - the birth place of the notorious bandit Veerappan. The nearly century old forest guest house is worth seeing and knowing about
- Very beautiful flora
Route details:
Ponnachi 2nd cross - Yerekem patti - Namadallihalla - Gopinatham
Schedule:
Reach Ponnachi 2nd cross from M.M. Hills at around 8:30AM. Start trekking towards Gopinatham. Trekking for about eight to ten hours you reach Gopinatham.

Total distance to be trekked: 18kms
Facilities: There are forest department guest houses at M.M. Hills and Gopinatham which can be availed of by paying according to tariff

How to reach Yerekem Halla (the start point):
From Bangalore: Travel to M.M. hills by bus - 210 kms
From Mysore: Travel to M.M. hills by bus - 130 kms
How to depart from Gopinatham (the end point):
To Mysore: Travel to Palar to M.M. Hills and then to Mysore by bus - 165 kms
To Bangalore: Travel via Palar, M.M. Hills, Kollegal by bus - approximately 270 kms
To Bangalore: Travel to Palar and then via Mettur and Darmapuri by bus - approximately 290 kms
